John Burns was an Avid Editor from 1992 – 2001 cutting commercials for advertising agencies. He also taught Avid Media Composer for many years before turning his attentions to Final Cut Pro. He started working on Final Cut Pro as soon as the first version was released and founded Final Cut Pro Classes, Inc. His passion for editing has led him to take on many different types of projects. Documentaries, news packages, features and more. He has worked for CBS News, CNN, FOX News Channel, HBO, Showtime, ABC and many more prominent companies in the media industry. His story telling skills, creativity and technical expertise are exceptional.
Ashley Gerst is a 3D, 2D, and motion graphics animator based out of Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA in T.I.M.E./Digital Arts at Cleveland Institute of Art in 2007. She received her MFA in Computer Art from School of Visual Arts in 2011. Professionally, Ashley Gerst splits herself into thirds as a freelance animator, adjunct professor of animation and digital arts, and as an independent filmmaker. She considers herself to be a digital circus performer: a tightrope walker hovering precariously between commercial and fine arts. She has created animation and VFX for Fast Company, BodeeO, Credit Suisse, Nissan, Red Bull and many more. She is currently an Adjunct Professor, teaching in both undergraduate and graduate levels for several colleges in the New York / NJ area. These colleges include New York Institute of Technology, Montclair State University, Bloomfield College, Stevens Institute of Technology and Rasmussen College Online. Her films have been featured nationally. Her personal work consists of animations that combine a mixture of computer generated 3D and constructed, physical elements. Her goal is to create fantastical animations that ground the viewer in a new kind of reality by re-visting folklore into a digital yet glitterfied, crafted physicality. She is currently working on a new animated film titled ‘The Spirit Seam’ with an expected completion date of December 2016.
Peter Dant grew up and attended school in Ohio. After graduating from Fine Art School at the University of Cincinnati in 1992, he decided to pursue his photographic career in New York City. Over the next eight years, he worked for various commercial photography studios and labs both traditional and digital. New York is where he fine tuned all of his photographic and printing ability of established photographers including Annie Leibovitz and Ellen Von Unwerth, Peter learned technical and artistic skills on the job that helped formed his style. Since 1992, Peter has exhibited photographic artwork in over 14 gallery shows in the US and abroad.
Christopher Walsh is an experienced Art Director who has worked in several Advertising Agencies such as Tracy Locke Dallas and Frankel in Chicago. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California for Advertising Illustration and has his BA in Advertising from The Art Institute of Dallas. He has an excellent working knowledge of all the Adobe Suite. He currently works as a freelance Art Director in New York City.
Steve Olswang has worked in New York as a freelance editor of television documentaries and other programs for over twenty years. He has a B.S. in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University and a M.F.A. in Filmmaking from Yale University. He’s edited numerous shows over the years for networks such as the History Channel, A & E, PBS, Discovery Channel, CBS, and HDNet. In 2002, he jumped at the opportunity to work with and teach Apple’s Final Cut Pro, and has worked extensively with the software since then. He’s now Apple Certified in Final Cut Pro 7, and has a wide range of experience integrating different video formats into the editing process.
Seth Jacobson has shot, directed, and edited many video projects. He has edited for top musical talent such as Snoop Dog, Ice Tea, Ledesi, Dr. Lonnie Smith and Joey DeFrancesco. He has also edited talk shows, reality shows, documentaries, broadcast TV commercials, and promotional videos. He has 10 years of experience with Final Cut Pro.
Frederick Trevino is an award winning filmmaker living in Brooklyn, New York. He received a B.F.A in Film/Video from the University of Texas and is certified in Final Cut Pro, Color, Compressor, and Soundtrack Pro as well as being well experience with the RED workflow. His films have been shown in multiple festivals including, The New Filmmakers Film Festival and Texas Show where his film, Sing For Me, won Audience favorite. Throughout his film career, Frederick has worked as a director, editor, colorist and post supervisor. His color work has screened at such highly esteemed locations as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York. Frederick’s extensive software knowledge comes from both being a working professional for over 6 years and as an instructor for over 4 years. As a filmmaker, he prefers personal films and his influences include Cassavetes, Godard, Coppola, Welles, Scorcese, Kurosawa, Teshigahara, Allen, and Bergman to name a few. In his free time he also enjoys writing.
Daniel DeStefano has been editing professionally using Final Cut Pro for five years. His work has appeared on The Onion, CBS College Sports, Food 2 and The History Channel. He has also previously taught editing using Final Cut Pro at the New York Film Academy at Harvard for two summers.
Melisa Ramos is an accomplished professional Video Editor/Motion GFX Artist demonstrating consistent success as a Post Production instructor. She has an outstanding track record in assuring student success and stimulating student’s development and has taught editing and compositing softwares at a university level. She possess a background in TV post production direction and Motion GFX. She received a BA in Communications and TV Production from the University of Sacred Heart, San Juan, PR and an MFA in Film from Miami International University of Art and Design. She has coached students in order to participate in Cannes Film Festival Documentary competitions. Melisa Ramos specializes in motion GFX and compositing using softwares such as: Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Nuke, Cinema 4D, Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer. She is an award winner at film fest “Cine Las Americas” 2006, Austin Texas for the short “Eternally Yours” written and edited by her.
Miguel Meléndez is an experienced Music Producer, Sound Engineer & all around geek about music technology, living in Brooklyn, NY for the past 6 Years. He received he’s degree in Music Production & Sound Engineering from Full Sail University in 2006 moving to new york to pursue that field. He has made a career in NYC for the past 6 years teaching people of all ages about music technology and providing technical support. At the same time he has been making music and performing live and as a DJ on a regular basis in many venues both big and small sharing the stage with acts from all over the world. He’s been a logic certified pro for the past 4 years and has extensive knowledge of DAW’s and Music Software like Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Traktor Pro and an extensive list of Audio Plug ins including Ozone Mastering Suite, Native Instruments Komplete and Melodyne just to name a few.
